Romania’s Supreme Defense Council will meet on Wednesday, September 3, one day before the NATO Summit in Wales, to establish the country’s official position at this summit.

Romanian president Traian Basescu has said Romania is interested in consolidating security to the Eastern border of the NATO, given the increasing security risks in the region. The Romanian Prime Minister too has said Romania would like to have a NATO base in the region. Romanian officials agree that security needs to increase in the Black Sea.

NATO is currently facing the crisis in Ukraine, and threats from neighbor Russia. The Alliance is trying to keep security to an increased level and discourage any attempts which might lead to a full on open conflict.
