Romanian takes selfies in cockpit after bypassing airport security
A Romanian from the city of Cluj-Napoca managed to prove the inefficiency of the security measures in the city’s international airport by pulling an incredible stunt. He bypassed the regular security filters, got up on a plane and shot several selfies in the pilot’s cockpit. He’s now investigated for illegal border crossing, while the airport started an internal investigation, according to Digi 24 news station.
The man managed to break the security glass that separated the airport’s free area from one restricted area. He got to the terminal’s basement, in the baggage sorting area, and then got out on the runway. Nobody stopped him from getting to a stationed plane. He even managed to get inside the aircraft and into the pilot’s cabin.
He took several photos inside the plane before the maintenance personnel saw him and notified the border police.
The 30-year old man said he wanted to get to his girlfriend in London, but didn’t have a ticket, according to stirileprotv.ro.
Low-cost airline WizzAir, which operates the respective plane, confirmed the security incident. However, the company’s representatives said that the man wouldn’t have been able to pass unnoticed among the other passengers as the plane is thoroughly checked before boarding.
The Cluj County Council, which controls the international airport in Cluj-Napoca, started an investigation.
A private firm is in charge of the airport’s security for a EUR 1.3 million fee, according to Digi 24. Adding to that, each of the 30 companies that operate in the airport has its security. In total, more than 1,000 people are in charge of security at the airport, according to Digi 24.
Almost 1.2 million passengers transited the international airport in Cluj-Napoca in 2014.
