Romanian team bring six medals from Balkan Math Olympiad for seniors

Romanian students came home with six medals from the Balkan Math Olympiad for seniors that ended on May 6. Romania got two gold, three silver and one bronze at the Olympiad which took place in Bulgaria, at Pleven.

Gold medals went to Ioan-Laurenţiu Ploscaru from the "Alexandru Lahovari" high school in Râmnicu Vâlcea and Ştefan Spătaru from the International Informatics High School in Bucharest.
Paul Muscă, Viorel Andrei Bud and Marius Bocanu, all from the International Informatics High School in Bucharest, earned silver medals, while Andrei Teodor Andronache, from the same high school, landed a bronze medal.

Romania was against teams from other countries in the region: Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Macedonia, Greece, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey, as well as invited countries Azerbaijan, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kirghistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, UK and Uzbekistan.

The competition consisted in each team member solving four geometry problems, number theory, combinatorics and algebra, all within four and a half hours.
