Romanian teenager detained for jihadist propaganda

Romania’s Directorate for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) held a Romanian teenager for allegedly making jihadist propaganda online, reports the local media.

The young Romanian, who is a student at a high school in Craiova, has sent via the internet messages in support of jihadist groups, video clips showing beheadings of people captured by ISIS members, and videos with threatening messages, sources close to the investigation told local Mediafax.

The teenager, aged 17, was brought in for questioning. Moreover, the local authorities took several documents, jihadist propaganda materials and IT systems from his home.

Ovidiu Marincea, the spokesman of the Romanian Intelligence Service SRI, said that the SRI was aware of the teenagers’ activities and provided all the information to the competent authorities. According to him, DIICOT has taken over the case and the investigation is ongoing, reports local Agerpres.

Marincea added that SRI would make an official statement at the right time.
