Romanian telecom operator Romtelecom offers free phone calls to Japan

18 March 2011

Romanian telecom operator Romtelecom has offered its clients  free phone calls to quake- and tsunami-shattered Japan starting Saturday, March 20, for 30 days.  The telecom operator said it hopes the decision will be of help to the victims of the disaster that hit Japan, as well as to their families and friends in Romania.

Romtelecom, owned by Greek group OTE, is Romania's top land-line telephony operator.

The death toll from the disastrous earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 tops six thousand people and 10,354 have been reported missing, said AFP citing official data released by Japanese authorities. The death toll is expected to rise, as it is unlikely any of those reported missing survived, according to the source.
