Romanian vessel joins border patrol mission in the Mediterranean

The Romanian Border Police’s flagship will join the efforts to watch Europe’s border in the Mediterranean in the next three months, as part of a mission to contain the illegal migration.

The Stefan cel Mare patrol and intervention vessel and 21 border policemen will join the Triton 2016 operation, which aims to counter the illegal migration into the European Union by sea. In this operation, patrol vessels from EU member states will watch the maritime borders of Greece and Italy, the EU countries most affected by illegal migration by sea.

The Romanian vessel left the Constanta port on Sunday, December 27, to join the mission.
