Romanian waste recycling company gets EUR 12 mln fine
The Environment Fund Administration (AFM), a public institution coordinated by Romania’s Ministry of Environment, has fined the company Eco-Rom Ambalaje, which recycles waste packaging for the producers and importers that sell packaged products. The fine amounts to about EUR 12 million.
Eco-Rom was sanctioned because it hasn’t reached its target for waste collection, reports local Ziarul Financiar. As an EU member, Romania needs to reach a recycling rate of 50% compared to 5% today.
AFM carried out searches at the companies which take over the responsibility for achieving the recycling goals, including Eco-Rom Ambalaje.
