Young Romanian inventor wins first prize in Intel contest in China
Ionut Budisteanu, one of the most talented Romanian inventors of the young generation, has won the first prize in a technology design competition organized by American microchip producer Intel in Shanghai, China.
“It was my first collegiate electronic contest and an amazing experience for me,” Budisteanu wrote on his blog.
He developed a smart surveillance system that uses Artificial Intelligence to process the images in order to recognize the moving objects like pedestrians, cars, animals, and anything that is not static and can be seen by the surveillance cameras. Budisteanu used a very powerful computer device board manufactured by Intel for his surveillance system.
Ionut Budisteanu, a 20 years old student from Ramnicu-Valcea, became famous after winning first place and USD 75,000 at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for high school students in May 2013. He used artificial intelligence technology and a mounted camera on the car to identify traffic lanes, curbs, cars and even people.
In Novermber 2013, Budisteanu was listed among Time Magazine’s 16 most influential teenagers in the world.
