Romanians apply for a third of cash-for-clunkers vouchers a month after new start of the program

20 May 2014

Romania’s Environment Ministry received 5,700 voucher requests within the cash – for - clunkers program this year, and 11,280 vouchers are still available.

This comes within a month from the launch of this year’s program, and authorities expect a new wave of applications from Romanians who want to buy new cars using loans, according to the Environment Ministry.

The biggest number of reservations for vouchers came from Bucharest – 1,350, then Arges and Constanta, 330 and 280, respectively.

On the corporations segments, 3,000 vouchers were made available on April 30. Only 300 files were submitted for the acquisition of some 1,000 cars.

The new cash-for-clunkers (or Rabla) program for 2014 started in April. The program gives a RON 6,500 voucher in exchange for their old car to those who want to buy a new one, if they scrap the old one at any authorized center. The program is managed by the Environment Ministry.
