Romanians build over 52,200 homes in 2016
Romanians built over 52,200 homes last year, up 5,200 compared to 2015. Most of them were located in the north-west region, according to data published yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
People built more homes in urban areas (53.4%) compared to villages (46.6%) during this period. The number of homes built with private funds increased by almost 5,300 whereas the homes made with public funds dropped by 69.
Fewer homes were built in Bucharest and the surrounding areas in 2016, compared to the previous year. However, most regions in Romania recorded an increase in the number of newly-built homes. The north-west region ranked first, followed by the north-east region.
In the last three months of 2016, some 15,200 homes were delivered in Romania, down 564 units compared to the same period of 2015.
