Romanians build more houses
The number of dwellings built in Romania increased by 11.6% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching some 9,200. More than half (54.2%) were built in urban areas, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
The number of houses built with private funds increased by 734 in the first three months of 2015.
Some 5,000 were built in urban areas between January and March, whereas some 4,200 were erected in villages.
The Bucharest-Ilfov region saw some 2,500 new homes in this period, up 1,023 compared to the same period last year. Other regions such as the South-West region Oltenia recorded drops in the number of new dwellings year-on-year.
