Romanians eat more meat, but still below more developed countries

The average monthly consumption of fresh meat per person amounted to 3.39 kg per person in Romania in 2016, slightly up compared to 2015, according to the National Institute Statistics (INS).

However, meat consumption in Romania remains relatively low compared to standards in more developed countries.

One-person households had the highest consumption of meat, namely 4.89 kg fresh meat per person every month.

Bread and bakery products were among the basic foods for all analyzed households, according to INS. The average monthly consumption of bread reached 8.24 kg per person, compared to 8.38 kg per person in 2015.
