Romanians, rather interested in buying electric cars

02 April 2019

About 36% of Romanians looking for a new car would opt for an electrical one, more than double the share of German buyers.

Thus, the Romanians are the most interested among East Europeans in buying electric cars, according to a study by E.ON and Kantar EMNID, quoted by local Hotnews.ro. In Hungary, the percentage is 29% and in the Czech Republic - 11%.

The same study also shows that 25% of respondents believe that electric vehicles will exceed the number of conventional ones for just over 20 years -- a share showing more robust confidence in the future of electric vehicles, compared to the other East Europeans not to mention Germans.

Another 22% say that it is excluded that Romania will ever achieve the performance of having a car park made up mostly of electric cars. The same opinion is given by both Czechs and Hungarians, with only 15% and 14%, respectively. A major cause of skepticism is the low number of charging stations.

Germans seem to be among the most skeptical about electric vehicles. Although Germany has the infrastructure, most people consider the high price and reduced autonomy the main impediments. One-third of Germans believe that electric cars will never surpass the conventional ones, according to the study.
