Romanians forget clothes, jewelry, laptops, money and even pets in hotel rooms

Around 7 percent of guests in Romanian accommodation units forget things in their rooms when checking out, according to a study by HotelGuru.ro.

Most people forget clothes or personal care items, but some forget even money, electronic devices, jewelry or documents. The data came from a survey of 150 hotel owner across Romania. Only one of them said no guest ever left anything behind at checkout.

Around a third of respondents said guests forget their ID cards either in their rooms, or at the front desk.

Some of the items left behind were valuable – laptops, tablets, jewelry, label perfumes and clothing. Romanians also forget money in hotel rooms: the highest amount forgotten by a guest, according to the survey, was EUR 8,000. In another case, a guest forgot a hand bag with EUR 150,000, but returned to take it bag in short time.

Among the most unusual items left behind in hotel rooms, Romanian hotel owners found a parrot, sexual toys, a wedding dress, a dog and a fur coat, according to HotelGuru.ro.

Around 60 percent of the accommodation units notify tourists of the items they left. They keep the items from a week to up to 6 months; some owners keep the items, while others choose to donate them.
