Romanians in the WTA ranking: Halep keeps position, Begu and Niculescu go down
Five Romanian tennis players were among the world's top 100 women's tennis players, according to the WTA ranking released on Monday, June 29. Simona Halep is the only Romanian player who maintained her position while the other four went down in the ranking.
With 6,200 points, Halep is the best-ranked Romanian player. She is at number 3, after American Serena Williams (11,291) and Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova (6,870 points).
Irina-Camelia Begu lost one place in the WTA ranking and is now at number 31, with 1,636 points. Monica Niculescu now ranks 48th (down from 46), with 1,065 points, while Alexandra Dulgheru is at number 60 (down from 59), with 937 points. One other Romanian is in top 100: Andreea Mitu ranks 71st (down from 70), with 820 points.
All five players compete in the first round of Wimbledon. The tournament starts today, June 29, in London, UK, and will end on July 15.
In the doubles rankings, Monica Niculescu is at number 52, Raluca Olaru ranks 55th, Irina-Camelia Begu is at number 56, and Elena Bogdan ranks 84.
