Over 81,500 Romanians kids have parents working abroad
Over 81,500 Romanian children had at least one parent working abroad in the first half of the year, according to the National Authority for Child Protection and Adoption (ANPDCA).
More than a quarter of these kids had both parents working in another country, namely over 21,300. Of these, about 20,200 are left at home and taken care by relatives, whereas over 1,060 are placed in some form of special protection, reports local Mediafax.
Among the 50,000 kids that have one parent working abroad, almost 1,700 are placed in a special protection system.
In total, about 4,000 children who are affected by the parents’ work migration are part of the special protection system. Over half of them are taken care by relatives, 940 are put into children’s homes, 671 stay with a foster parent, and almost 290 with other families or people.
