Romanians to eat 30 million mici over May 1 break
The meat producers expect to sell some 30 million mici (a popular minced meat dish in Romania) over the May 1 holiday, Stiri.tvr.ro reported.
The mici sales usually peak around this time, as May 1 is associated with the consumption of this product.
The 30 million mici amount to 1,500 tons of meat. The highest demand is recorded in Bucharest. A pack of 16 mici retails for RON 14 (EUR 3) on average.
Previous statistics showed that Romanians eat some 440 million mici per year, amounting to a total of 20,000 – 25,000 tons of meat. In addition to the local consumption, they are also exported to in Italy or Spain, where there are large communities of Romanians.
