Romanians are in no rush to tie the knot in Bucharest, but number of marriages hits high elsewhere in Romania
Romania’s Iasi county ranks first in the country based on the number of marriages in 2012, with over 4,500 marriages, followed by Timis - where 4,420 couples got married in 2012, and Suceava with 4,225 marriages, according to data from the National Statistics Institute INS, cited by local Mediafax.
The top 10 is completed by Constanta, Cluj, Prahova, Bacau, Brasov, Arges and Dolj counties. The lowest number of marriages in 2012 was recorded in Covasna county - slightly over 870.
At a national level, the number of marriages dropped by 44 percent in 2012, when compared to 1990, from 192,652 to over 107,700. In Bucharest, the decrease was of 38 percent.
INS statistics also reveal that 2007 was the only year when the number of marriages got close to the one registered in 1990, while the lowest number was reported in 2011, writes Mediafax.
