Romanians plan Easter at home, on lower than EUR 100 budget

15 April 2014

Most Romanians intend to spend Easter at home, with their family and friends, and spend less than EUR 100 on this holiday.

A recent study by MEDNET Marketing Research Center found that 85 percent of urban Romanians intend to spend Easter at home this year, and have allotted RON 359 – or some EUR 80 on this holiday, similarly to last year. Only a small percentage said they will get a cash bonus from work – 15.2 percent of them, while 11.2 percent will get holiday vouchers, and 5 percent gifts.

More than half of urban Romanians intend to respect the egg painting tradition, while 17 percent said they prefer to buy the painted eggs directly from the store. Half of the Romanians said they'd buy the traditional cake Cozonac on Easter, and only 33 percent will bake it at home.

Around half of the interviewed people said they intend to buy the lamb meat – traditional on Easter – while 7 percent said they'd receive lamb meat from family or friends, while 5.3 percent said they cannot afford this type of meat. The study was carried online on 663 people aged 18 to 55, and has an error margin of plus/minus 3.8 percentage points.
