Romanians put aside more RON than foreign currencies but deposits drop in February
Deposits in Romanian and foreign currencies dropped in Romania by 1.1 percent in February on the previous month, to approximately EUR 42 billion, according to the Romanian Central Bank (BNR). Deposits in RON went down by 0.9 percent, while those in foreign currencies, by almost 2 percent.
Individuals held EUR 16 billion of bank deposits in RON in February, 1.6 percent more than in January, while firms had only EUR 10 billion in their bank accounts – down 4.2 percent.
Romanians saved less in foreign currencies, which witnessed a drop of 0.7 percent, to EUR 9 billion. Firms' deposits in foreign currencies went down by 3.4 percent, to EUR 5 billion.
