Romanians spend almost a third of their salaries on food
Romanians spent on average EUR 107 monthly on food and non-alcoholic drinks last year, more than the Czechs, Poles or Hungarians, although salaries are twice lower.
Germans spent an average EUR 167 per month on food, even if their salaries are eight times bigger than in Romania.
Romanian consumers pay 28% of their monthly salaries on food. Romanians like to shop more than any other Europeans, said François Melchior de Polignac, the former head of French retailer Carrefour, reports local Ziarul Financiar.
Shopping is for Romanians not only a need, but also a social activity and a way spending the free time, said Catalina Aldea, consultant in retail management.
