06 December 2011

Romania's Gross Domestic Product went up by 1.8 percent quarter -on-quarter in the third quarter of the year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). The Institute has revised previous data that showed a 1.9 percent increase.

Romanian president Traian Basescu said recently he was hoping for a 2.5 percent GDP growth for the last quarter of this year, which would allow Romania to record an overall yearly growth of 2 percent. This was above the number mentioned by Jeffrey Franks, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Romania, who estimated 1.5 percent growth for this year.
