Romanians’ trust in banks halves compared to 2008

The Romanians’ trust in banks has dropped by half since 2008, when the financial crisis began, according to a study by the National Bank of Austria.

Back then, one in five Romanians trusted the banking system whereas now only one in twelve still has a favorable opinion about the banks, reports local Hotnews.ro.

By comparison, the Czechs, Croats, and Poles feel better about their banking systems. Bulgarians, Romanians, and Hungarians are approximately at the same level.

The Romanians’ trust in the stability of the national currency leu (RON) in the next five years has improved compared to 2009-2010, but it’s still at a low level, the same study reveals.
