What do Romanians watch on YouTube?
Some 6.5 million Romanians go on YouTube every month, mainly for watching and listening to music videos, cooking lessons and sports competitions.
According to online marketing agency Today’s, 60% of Romanian YouTube users watch music videos on the platform, 25% watch videos dedicated to cooking, and 24% prefer videos about sports. Also, 23% watch videos related to politics and fresh news, while 21% prefer the content dedicated to technology and reviews about gadgets, reports local Hotnews.ro.
Most of the Romanian users, namely 94%, watch the videos from home. Unlike classic televisions, people pay more attention to the videos on YouTube: over half of Romanians don’t do anything else while watching such a video.
Romania is also the country with the largest increase in viewing time in Central and Eastern Europe.
“The YouTube figures show that Romanians use this platform to stay informed and have access to other people’s impressions on events, news and products they purchase. It is also used for fun, as we can see from the list of popular channels,” said Marius Lazarescu, manager and founder Today’s, cited by local Hotnews.ro.
The most popular YouTube channel in Romania is the one belonging to Cat Music record label, which has 1.4 million subscribers. One of the most known local video bloggers, Mikey Hash, has a channel with 700,000 subscribers while CreativeMonkeyzArmy gathers 540,000 fans.
Google launched the local version of YouTube in 2013.
