Romania’s Agriculture Ministry wants to modernize the main irrigation system by allocating EUR 145 million annually for seven years.
The secondary infrastructure can benefit from European funds worth over EUR 430 million, reports local Mediafax. The EU funds, which correspond to the 2014 - 2020 programming period, will be allocated through the National Rural Development Programme.
The money will be used to set up, extend and modernize the irrigation system. The farmers that are organized in various groups will be the beneficiaries.
The Agriculture Ministry hasn’t offered any information yet about the drought’s effects on the local agriculture.
