Romania's car production goes down while car sales increase
About 240,000 motor vehicles were produced in Romania in the first eight months of the year. The local production dropped by 6.5% compared to the same period in 2015.
Dacia produced over 211,000 units whereas Ford manufactured some 29,000 units. Dacia Duster remained the most popular model, with almost 121,000 units produced in the first eight months of the year.
Meanwhile the local car sales saw an upward trend. Some 87,500 motor vehicles were sold between January and August this year, up 16% compared to the same period last year. In August over 11,500 vehicles were sold, up 25% compared to August 2015.
Companies accounted for 75% of the sales whereas individuals bought only 25% of the total number of cars. The commercial vehicle sales increased faster than the passenger car sales.
