Romania's Center Right Alliance signs manifesto, hopes to beat Social Liberal Union in elections
Romania's new political formation, the Center Right Alliance, recently launched its manifesto, after several weeks of meetings and negotiations. Made up of the Democratic Liberal Party, together with the Christian-Democratic National Peasants' Party, the New Republic Party, the Right of Center Civic Initiative and the Christian-Democratic Foundation, the alliance also includes the former PM Mihai Ungureanu (in picture), of mini mandate fame.
The manifesto was signed by the alliance leaders Vasile Blaga, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, Aurelian Pavelescu, Mihail Neamtu and Adrian Papahagi, who hope to take on the ruling Social Liberal Union (USL) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The joint manifesto has the immediate goal of winning the elections, due before the end of the year.
The alliance also seeks to provide the Romanian electorate with a united center right political option, promising “justice for all and prosperity for everyone.”
Vasile Blaga, of the Democratic Liberal Party described the USL's actions as irresponsible and Ungureanu said signing the manifesto marked the beginning of the right wing's battle for control of the country.
