Information about Romania's Central Bank Governor's secret salary, leaked online
Romanian Central Bank (BNR) governor Mugur Isarescu (in picture) earned around EUR 12,200 a month last year, according to Romanian publication Money.ro, quoting a wealth statement which had been mistakenly published on the National Integrity Agency website. The agency confirmed publishing the statementing was a mistake and took the document down, but did not confirm the amount, according to Money.ro.
The salaries in BNR are secret and publishing them would mean breaking the Central Bank independence, according to the National Integrity Agency.
The BNR Governor's salary has been a secret since 2007, when he was making EUR 7,300 a month. According to the most recent wealth statement, Isarescu also has four bank deposits with a total of EUR 55,000 and USD 11,900.
