Romania’s Central Electoral Bureau rejects registration of new political alliance USD
Romania’s Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) rejected on Monday (March 3) the registration of the new Social – Democrat Union Alliance, in short USD, for the European elections, because the same name was used before in Romania, for Parliamentary elections.
PSD leader Victor Ponta said that the name of the alliance will be changed, following BEC’s decision.
Marian Muhulet, vice-president of the Permanent Electoral Authority AEP and member of BEC, told local newswire Mediafax that the reason for rejecting the registration request of the Social-Democrat Union electoral alliance is that the same name was used in the 1996 elections for the Parliament.
However, USD, the alliance made of the Social Democratic Party PSD, the National Union for the Progress of Romania UNPR, and the Conservative Party PC, may appeal BEC’s decision.
