Romania's Chamber of Deputies to donate 600 printers, copy machines to schools to cut costs, reduce paper consumption
The Chamber of Deputies will donate all of its 600 printers and copy machines to schools as part of a program to reduce paper waste within the Romanian Parliament.
Having already gathered 100 printers and copy machines, the chamber's management has opened 12 copy centers for staff and MPs.
By the end of the week, 13 more such centers will be in place, with the aim to have 150 copy centers in the Chamber of Deputies building at the end of the project.
Each of the copy centers was equipped with printers already owned by the Chamber so no additional expenses were incurred.
The first step in this direction was made in June when all printed materials within the Permanent Offices of the Chamber of Deputies were eliminated.
According to calculations, these measures will cut costs by as much as EUR 660,000 a year and drop the number of copies printed in the parliament by as many as 3.5 million sheets, thus saving 200 trees, according to Valeriu Zgonea, president of the Chamber of Deputies (in picture).
The Chamber selected 600 schools where it will donate the printers and copy machines.
