Romania's Competition Council analyzes transaction in pharma retail
Romania’s Competition Council is currently analyzing the transaction by which the pharmacy network Sensiblu wants to take over 78 Polisano and Reteta drug stores from the Polisano group.
Polisano was founded by Romanian doctor Ilie Vonica, who died in 2014. His family now owns the group and has been trying to make it more efficient.
The group will sell most of its drug stores to the Sensiblu network in a transaction worth about EUR 20 million. It will not exit the drug retail sector, but will keep only a few pharmacies. According to its statements, the network now owns over 80 pharmacies.
Polisano has begun a process of rebranding the Reteta pharmacies into Polisano. The Polisano group also owns a network of polyclinics, a private hospital, a pharma distributor and a pharma factory.
Sensiblu, part of the A&D Pharma group, is the second pharmacy network in Romania, with over 400 units, after Catena.
