Romania's Competition Council fines gas companies
Romania’s Competition Council has sanctioned ten companies in the natural gas sector with fines totaling over EUR 207,000 for anticompetitive agreements.
The companies aimed to establish a single price for standard natural gas installations used to connect clients to the gas distribution networks, according to the Competition Council. The agreement affected consumers, who had to pay higher prices for gas installations than before.
The firms that were fined include one natural gas distributor and nine contractors for natural gas networks. Gas distributor Wirom Gas, which is indirectly controlled by Gazprom, received the largest fine of almost EUR 180,000. The smallest fine totaled some EUR 100, and was applied to a company called Meliorstal.
