Romania's Constitutional Court makes decision in President – PM quarrel over EC meeting attendance
The Constitutional Court in Romania decided that the country's president Traian Basescu should attend the European Council reunion on June 28 and 29. The decision came after the President and the Prime Minister had been quarreling about who to attend the Council Meeting, and the President finally took the issue to the Constitutional Court.
The court ruled that the president could delegate attendance to the meeting to the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister Victor Ponta attended the Constitutional Court hearing on Wednesday. Before the hearing, he said that the President could not ask to change Romania into a presidential republic, where he has all the rights.
He also said he would have wanted to join the President and together represent Romania at the European Council meeting but that was not possible, as the Council asked for one representative per country.
