Romania's electro-IT market goes up by 6%
Romania’s electro-IT market increased by 6.4% in the second quarter of the year to EUR 449 million. The growth, which was significantly lower than in the first quarter (+14.7%), was supported by the positive evolution in the telecom and home appliances segments.
By comparison, the IT segment stagnated, and the electronics segment dropped by 3.3%, according to a GfK study.
Telecom product sales went up by 15% in the second quarter, reaching EUR 145 million, as smartphone sales increased by 22%. The value of the large appliances sector grew by over 11% to EUR 95 million, while small appliances increased by over 8% to EUR 29 million. Romanians showed more interest for cooking appliances and fruit and vegetable juicers.
The electronics sector dropped by 3% in the second quarter of the year, to EUR 67 million. The sales in the IT segment remained stable at some EUR 95 million. The photo equipment segment saw the highest drop compared to the second quarter of 2014, of almost 17%, to some EUR 6 million.
