Romania’s employment rate on the 15 to 64 years old working population segment was of 59.1 percent in the third quarter of 2011, down 1.1 percentage points compared to the same period in 2010, but up 0.3 percentage points compared to the second quarter this year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The employment rate for men was 65.4 percent, higher compared to the employment rate for women, of 52.8 percent. The BIM unemployment rate, calculated for people aged 15 to 74 who have no job, but are available to work and looked for a job in the last month, stood at the same level in the third quarter compared to the previous one - 7.2 percent.

The employment rate among those aged 20 to 64 was 63.3 percent, 6.7 percentage points below the national target of 70 percent, set in the Europe 2020 Strategy.
