Romania’s energy exports down 12.9% in 2010 while imports stay the same

01 November 2011

Romania’s energy exports went down by 12.9 percent in 2010 compared to 2009, to 4 million tonnes of oil equivalent, according to the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS). Gasoline and diesel oil exports represented about 60 percent of the total.

However, the energy imports stood at the same level of 2009 of 11.2 million tonnes of oil equivalent.

In 2010, the primary energy production in Romania was of 24.7 million tonnes of oil equivalent, according to INS. The final energy consumption showed a slight increase in 2010 compared to 2009, of 1.6 percent, due to the increases in industry, including the construction segment, and in other activities. Lower consumption increases, of under 2 percent, were reported in agriculture and on the population segment.

The available energy resources amounted to 44.3 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2010, up by 1 percent compared to 2009, mainly due to the high level of primary and transformed energy stocks, which were 23.1 percent higher at the beginning of 2010 than in early-2009.
