Romania’s external debt goes down in January
Romania’s external debt, which includes both the state’s foreign loans as well as the external debts of private companies, dropped by EUR 1.2 billion in January this year to EUR 89.7 billion.
It was the lowest level recorded in more than five years, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR). At the end of last year, the total external debt reached EUR 90.9 billion.
The long-term external debt amounted to EUR 69.9 billion on January 31, down from over EUR 71 billion at the end of December. The long-term public debt reached EUR 31.2 billion (down from EUR 31.6 billion at end-December).
The short-term debt totaled EUR 19.8 billion.
