Romania's Fire Fairies to take part in Mongol Charity Rally this summer
An all girl Romanian team, calling themselves the Fire Fairies, will take part in the Mongol Charity Rally, which starts on July 12 in London and ends (hopefully!) several weeks later in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. Teams are free to choose whatever route they want, "London to Mongolia through as many 'Stans as you can shake a stick at!" as the rally's official website puts it. Romanians Andreea Tron - 22, student, Ramona Enache - 22, student, and Cristiana Tautu - 26, literary agent, will drive a fire truck across 16 countries on the approximately 10,000 mile route to Mongolia.
The Fire Fairies will start in the Czech Republic, and then cross Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia. The girls say their contrasting personalities are the perfect mix to help them on their continent crossing adventure.
Rally teams donate both the vehicles and the money raised, so entrants are encouraged to use ambulances, fire engines etc. The money will go to Lotus Children's Centre Charitable Trust that is trying to take care of up to 150 abused, orphaned and abandoned children.
