Romania's brains again came out among the first in the world in the recent International Physics Olympiad. After scoring top results at the recent International Olympiad in Informatics, Romania's team brought back home two gold and three silver medals from Copenhagen, in Denmark, where the international physics competition took place between July 7 and 15.

Romania's team of five ranked fifth in the world based on its results at this Olympiad, after competing against over 370 people from 82 other countries. The results are not a novelty for Romania, which has been winning five medals per competition in the last 20 years. This means each Romanian participant went back home with a medal every time they attended the competition.

Romanians Cristian Frunza and Cristian Andronic, in the 10th and 11th grade respectively got the gold medals, while silver went to Tudor Ciobanu, Denis Turcu, both 11th graders, and Sebastian Dumitru, a final year high school student. All five attend the International Informatics High School in Bucharest. Dumitru will study at Cambridge and plans to work in research.

The grand winner of the International Physics Olympiad was Szabo Attila from Hungary, who got the highest score. In total, 41 students in 16 countries got gold medals, while China and South Korea managed to return home with a gold medal for each of their team members.
