Romania's Forestry Code amendment could affect competition
The Romanian Presidency posted on its site the Competition Council’s opinion on the amendment draft to the Forestry Code, which it received in March.
The Council said that limiting the acquisition or the processing at 30% of the volume for each type of timber is a trade barrier. The state should eliminate this ceiling, the Council argued. The measure could affect competition.
There is no major public interest to be defended, which would motivate an exemption from the law, the Council further said.
The Presidency published the Competition Council’s opinion after several officials accused President Iohannis of certain hidden interests related to the Forestry Code.
Iohannis asked the Parliament to reexamine the amendment draft to the Forestry Code after the Parliament voted it.
