Romania's former head of Intelligence Service proposed as Ambassador to the US
Prime Minister Victor Ponta has proposed former Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior as Romania’s Ambassador to the US, according to government sources, cited by Evz.ro.
Ponta also proposed Mihnea Motoc as Romania’s Ambassador to the UK, replacing Ion Jinga, whom the PM proposed as Ambassador to the United Nations.
Once the Romanian President agrees with the proposals, they are sent to the Parliament's foreign policy committees, which hear the candidates and give an advisory opinion.
George Maior has been the head of the SRI for 8 years and resigned from office in January 2015.
