Romania’s GDP goes up 3.7% in the first nine months of 2015

Romania’s estimated GDP in the third quarter of the year amounted to about RON 196 billion (EUR 43.8 billion), up 3.6% year-on-year.

The estimated GDP rose by 3.7% in the first nine months of the year, to about EUR 111.5 billion, according to Romania’s National Statistics Institute (INS).

The GDP grew, as all economic sectors recorded increases during the first nine months, except for agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

The wholesale and retail, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, transport and storage, and hotels and restaurants sectors had the highest contribution to the GDP growth in the first nine months, of 1.1 percentage points (pp). They generated 16.7% of the GDP.

The IT&C sector brought 0.8 pp of the economic growth and contributed 6.7% to the total GDP. Industry, which had the biggest share in the overall GDP (22.7%) contributed 0.5 pp to the economic growth.

On the expenses side, the household consumption in Romania rose by 5.7%, contributing by 3.5 pp to the GDP growth. The net export had a negative contribution to the GDP growth, as the imports grew more than exports in the first nine months.
