Romania’s industrial production accelerates in April
Romania’s industry registered a 3.4% increase in April 2016 compared to the same month of last year, which is the biggest monthly increase this year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
In March, the industrial production went up by 2.9% year-on-year. Overall, in the first four months, the industrial production grew by 1.2% compared to the same period of 2015.
The mining industry went down by almost 20% in April 2016 compared to April 2015, and by 18% in the first four months. The energy industry was only 0.1% up in April and 2.8% down in the first four months. The manufacturing industry, however, gained 4.5% in April and was up 2.4% in the first four months.
The tobacco industry showed the biggest production increase in April, of 61.5%, followed by the coke industry (+42%) and the electrical equipment industry (+22.2%).
In 2015, Romania’s industrial production went up by 2.7% compared to 2014. Industry’s contribution to the GDP was 23.2%.
