Romania’s Irina Begu and Simona Halep reach Madrid Open quarter finals
Romanian tennis playerr Irina Begu, currently 34 in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world, and Simona Halep (number 7 WTA) qualified to the quarter finals of the Mutua Madrid Open. The two Romanians will play against each other for a place in the competition's semifinals.
Irina Begu beat American Christina Mchale after three long sets ended 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. The match took more than 2 and a half hours. Begu also had long matches against Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard and Spain’s Garbine Muguruza.
Simona Halep only needed one hour and 12 minutes to beat Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky (15 WTA). Halep won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) and hasn't conceded any set in her three matches in Madrid.
Romanians Sorana Cirstea and Patricia Tig were also supposed to play later on Wednesday to get to the quarter finals.
