Romania’s IT sector: 14,000 companies, EUR 4 bln revenues

About 14,000 IT companies are currently operating in Romania, and about half of them are located in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca, according to a study carried out by ARIES Transilvania, an organization created to support the local IT&C industry.

Romanian IT companies had revenues of EUR 4 billion last year and employed about 75,500 people.

Cluj-Napoca is the Romanian city with most IT specialists related to its population. About 1 in 25 people in the city work in IT. Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj, and Timis have about 73% of the total employees in the local IT industry.

Bucharest is the city with most employers in this field, providing half of the total number of jobs in IT in Romania. In the Iasi, Dolj, Bihor, Constanta and Gorj counties, the number of jobs in this field increased by over 30% last year compared to 2013.
