Romania's most expensive painting by Grigorescu, on display at Brukenthal Museum
The painting "Girl with red beads" (Fata cu margele rosii) by famous Romanian painter Nicolae Grigorescu, the most expensive Romanian artwork, sold in April a for record price of EUR 270,000 , will be on public display at the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu (in picture), after its owner decided to let it in the museum's custody.
The "Girl with red beads" painting enters in the public domain through the support provided by the Brukenthal National Museum regarding this private initiative, that agreed to temporary exhibit the artwork.
In September 2010, Romanian businessman Mircea Vescan also purchased, for EUR 155,000, the painting “Ox cart” (Car cu boi) by Nicolae Grigorescu, an emblematic work for the history of Romanian art, and also decided to exhibit it at the Brukenthal Museum.
“Girl with red beads” painting was sold at the auction of Art Nouveau and Romance organized by Artmark in April. Because the painting didn't have a title given by Grigorescu, the auction house called it "Little peasant girl resting" (Tarancuta odihnindu-se), but the owner preferred the title "Girl with red beads".
