Romania's new public wage law provides increases of up to 100% for culture
The new public sector pay law provides increases between 25% and 100% in culture institutions until 2021, said on Friday Cristian Sofron, the president of the biggest union in this sector.
If these increases are actually granted, things will look “civilized”, the man added, reports local News.ro.
He couldn’t remember which sector got which increase, because “the measures are extremely diverse in percentages”. He explained that culture has always been Romania’s “Cinderella” and hasn’t received the deserved attention.
Some of the first measures adopted by the Sorin Grindeanu cabinet included an increase of 50% in the salaries of actors and other artists working in public culture institutions. Sofron said that the recent salary increases in the field of culture have brought some rearrangement of wages, but employees in the field hope that things will become normal after the wage increases.
Cristian Sofron said that about 10,000 people in the sector would benefit from the new pay law.
