Romania’s Nuclearelectrica shuts down reactor 1 due to system malfunction
Romania’s electricity producer Nuclearelectrica shut down reactor 1 at the nuclear power plant in Cernavoda, due to a malfunction at the control and command system on Sunday afternoon (October 27), the company has announced.
“The shutdown activity didn’t affect the safety of the reactor, the plant’s staff, the population or the environment,” reads a statement of the company.
This comes after last week the electricity producer’s reactor 2 was shut down for several days due to a transformer malfunction.
The electricity annually generated by the nuclear plant in Cernavoda, through its Units 1 and 2, represents approximately 20 percent of the overall electricity production of Romania.
