Romania's only Ikea store ups sales by 10%, welcomes 3 million customers. What do they buy?
Swedish furniture retailer Ikea had a turnover of some EUR 89 million in the financial year 2011 – 2012 in Romania, a growth of 10.8 percent on the previous September to August previous year period, the retailer announced.
With over 3 million customers and 11 million products sold between September 2011 and August 2012, Ikea also had 4 million people checking its website during this period. On average, each customer bought four products, a hot-dog and one and a half meatballs in the Ikea restaurant. The restaurant sold over 4.2 million meatballs during this 12-month period, as well as 3 million hot-dogs.
Over half of the products sold were furniture items, and 44 percent were accessories.
The Bucharest shop, opened in March 2007, which started as a franchise but became part of Ikea Group in 2010, is part of the 338-store chain of Ikea shops around the world. The group ended the last financial year with a turnover of EUR 27.5 billion, an increase of 14 percent on the year before.
