Romania’s Parliament passes pensions law, complies with IMF request
The Romanian Parliament on Tuesday adopted the pensions law that the head of state had sent back for reexamination, requesting that the retirement age be set at 63 for women and 65 for men. The law has been requested by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the measures Romania needs to take to unlock more of the IMF loan. The bill was adopted with 172 votes in favor and the only amendment was brought to the article regarding retirement age, as the president had requested. The bill needs to be designed by President Traian Basescu into law.
